Project Management Success: Drive Results by Asking the Right Questions

By Alex Dingley

Workzone’s Customer Success Managers get a lot of questions about how to inspire change in their teams to drive project management success. There’s no single answer, but if you’re seeking to motivate change in yourself, or anyone else, it is essential to ask meaningful questions.

If you ask someone why they’re adopting a project management system, they might answer “We want to be more organized”, “We need to increase visibility across all of our projects”, or “We need to strategically leverage cross functional teams to drive synergy in our solutions from conceptualization to completion, for deliverables across diverse market sectors.” – If it’s that last one, walk away and don’t talk to that person anymore. If you’re only getting vague answers, maybe you need to stop asking vague questions.

When asked about reasons for joining a health club, most will say they “want to get in shape / be healthier” but that’s such an abstract goal that people struggle to commit to the process. The percentage of gym subscribers who actually get healthier is pretty uninspiring.

Much like a health club membership, project management tools are good for you when put to use, but building an effective routine is often the biggest challenge. Good habits are built after connecting true motivation to real actions. Whether you’re talking to a team leader, or individuals contributing to a process, don’t settle for answers like “we want to get more organized.”

Here are more meaningful questions that help Workzone’s Customer Success Managers to motivate team leaders as they implement our online tools.

  • In your team’s workflow, what wastes the most time and energy?
  • Which of your team members will feel the most quality-of-life improvements when you finally reduce the stress-level in your processes?
  • When you’re successfully managing this workload without having to put in extra hours on each project, what will you do with all of that time you got back?

Workzone is an excellent option for teams managing a large volume of projects, needing sophisticated functionality in a user-friendly interface. If we can be of help in steering you towards the right project management tool for your situation (even if it’s not Workzone), please contact us at 610-275-9861 or learn more about Workzone project management software.
