Cast a Vote to Help Active Minds Reduce College Suicide

Cast a Vote to Help Active Minds Reduce College Suicide

By Rick Mosenkis

Active Minds is a wonderful nonprofit organization dedicated to suicide prevention and empowering students to speak openly about mental health to educate others and encourage help seeking. The organization is approaching its tenth anniversary, and over the last nine years has created chapters on more than 370 college campuses across the nation, reaching out to young people, so that no student is left struggling alone.

Active Minds has been selected as one of 25 nonprofits competing for up to $1 million from Chase Bank, as part of the American Giving Awards. The organization receiving the most online votes, in a one-week period, Tuesday, November 27 to Tuesday December 4, wins. If Active Minds wins, the prize money could make a huge difference in improving and saving lives of college students. You can learn more about Active Minds at activeminds.org or watch this inspiring video made for the contest:

So, what do we need? Access to huge pools of online voters via Twitter/other sources. It’s going to take hundreds of thousands, perhaps millions of votes to win. So, while you’re welcome to vote on your own, what’s really needed is promotion from people with large Twitter followings, who can mobilize a large audience quickly. That means celebrities, athletes, authors or anyone else who has a large following, and who could post the below voting link on Twitter or wherever they communicate with their followers.

Vote for Active Minds on Facebook – must be between Tues Nov 27 and Tues Dec 4.

Do you have a social media following you’d be willing to help Active Minds reach? In addition to voting yourself, please put us on your Facebook page, email your friends and best of all get people who have a Twitter following to tweet about us!!

I’ve included some sample Twitter and Facebook posts below for you to use to get the message out during the one-week of voting (Tues Nov 27 – Tues Dec 4).

Thank you so much for your support of this great organization!
